The Lisette's Bench project was completed yesterday on Juneteenth! The three arc-shaped benches and petunia-inspired bird bath were installed by amazing artist, Matt Weir with the help of Indiana Monument employees, John and Jeremy, as well as, Colin from Padgett Crane Services.
We also want to thank Josh Taylor, owner of Taylor Landscaping Services for the time and materials to excavate and backfill the footprint of the benches; Peyton Barricades for delivery and loan of the signage during installation; and JR, owner of JR Landscaping for moving the existing bench to it's new location in the triangle.
Monetary donations will be accepted for the foreseeable future as we are still seeking another ~$1500 to complete this project and pay for already incurred expenses including limestone materials, permit and license fees. For complete transparency, updated bank statements showing all donations and the partial payments to artist Matt Weir and Lexacon Stone Cut Mill have been posted on this web site.
Project Update 6.20.15
The milling of the 3 arc shaped benches that comprise the Lisette's Bench project is completed. I will post a photo of the completed benches the week of May 5th.
The installation of the benches will take place a couple of days before the dedication ceremony which will be Saturday, June 21st around 9AM in the "triangle" at Saratoga Drive and Ridge Road. An announcement will be sent to all donors and neighbors with the dedication ceremony details before the end of May.
Our sculpture artist, Matt Weir, will be putting the personalized touches on the benches and creating the petunia bird bath in the coming weeks.
We will be accepting donations through June as we are seeking another ~$1500 to cover the entire cost of the Lisette's Bench project. The bank statements showing the donations and partial payments to artist Matt Weir and mill Lexacon Cut Stone are posted on this website.

Matt Weir
“I believe I grew up in a fortunate environment. Meaning, I lived near a forested park and adjoining woods. This regular physical and psychological exposure to nature, the environment and its elements ushered my early proclivity to constructive methods and sculptural materials.”
Matt Weir graduated Cum Laude with a BFA from the University of Louisville Hite Art Institute with minors in Humanities and Art History in. Throughout that time in school, he was busy apprenticing with a diverse set of professional artists, studios and a bronze art foundry. Matt’s time associated with the Bright Foundry lasted for approximately fifteen years.
Matt’s work is inspired by prehistory and considerations of fossilized behavior. His work also finds itself responsive to the anthropocentric situation wherein humans are busy altering every place and earth system.
Matt Weir is an accomplished artist with works and exhibitions at 21c Museum Hotel, Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft, Actor’s Theater of Louisville, The Kinsey Institute, Swanson Reed Contemporary, Evansville Museum of Art, History and Science and Bernheim Forest amongst many others. His work stands in the collections of the City of Louisville, Oldham County, KY, Vandalia, Ohio, the Shapin- Nicolas collection, 21c Museum, Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest, Cave Hill Cemetery, Daimler Chrysler, St. Xavier High School, Maker’s Mark Distillery, University of Louisville and amongst many private collections. Significant commissions include: “Earth Measure,” at Bernheim Forest, a 100-ton assembled and carved stone interactive land art piece. “Presence,” a polychromed aluminum public art ‘sign’ in downtown Louisville, KY. “Panthera tigris,” an over life size realistic bronze tiger sculpture at St. Xavier High School.
Matt Weir is a member of The National Sculpture Society and The American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works.
